Khuu Thi Gioi is also affectionately known as Mrs Tran by many of her customers. These customers have been frequenting the little corner shop in Palmerston Street, Perth, since the early 80s, being one of the very first Asian gourmet shops of its kind to open in Perth.

Born in the 1940s in Vĩnh Châu in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam, Mrs Tran, along with her husband Tan Tran, fled Vietnam to Australia with eight of their ten children as boat people in 1978. Of the eight children, only six came to Australia after spending six months in a refugee camp.
